Horton Foote's
The Trip To Bountiful

It’s the early 1940s and Mrs. Watts has one wish, one dream, all she wants is to go home. Home is where she and her husband had a farm near the Gulf Coast in Texas. Home is where she raised her children, with only one still surviving. She lives with her son and his wife in a tiny apartment in Houston. Because of the fragility of her health and the expense involved, the couple have prevented her from making the trip. Carrie Watts is bound and determined that she will make her way back to Bountiful. And so she does. The story unfurls as she sneaks out of the apartment and makes her way to the bus station. She befriends a sweet young woman on her way back home…to her family. Her husband of one year has been sent overseas. They share their stories on the bus trip. Eventually Mrs. Watts is intercepted by the sheriff who has instructions to keep her at last bus stop until her son and daughter can arrive to take her back to Houston. In the end she triumphs and the sheriff takes her back, one last time, to the home she loves. A touching and heartwarming story to remind us all of the place we each hold so dear…home.
Actors on Their Characters
Rochelle Savitt “Mrs. Carrie Watts has spent a lifetime making sure everyone else’s needs and expectations were met. She is now using an amazing strength to finally do something for herself and I hope the audience will feel as I do and cheer her on.”
Peter Alzado “Ludie reached across the table for his favorite cookie…it vanished. Bewildered he looked at the plate, thought of those he loved and went into the kitchen.”
Kate Sullivan "Jessie Mae is an absolute corker!”
Jennifer Miller-Brian "Thelma is a kindhearted young woman feeling fragile and alone at this time in her life. She finds comfort in Mrs. Watts and is inspired by her journey “home.”
Seattle Times..."The Trip To Bountiful" is as profound, poignant, and powerful an American classic as I've ever seen!
Atlanta Journal.....Horton Foote's story is timeless.
